The Meskel Festival happens every year in Ethiopia. It’s based on a dream that Queen Eleni had. In the dream she was told to build a small fire and the smoke would show her where the true cross of Jesus Christ was buried. So of course we had to check this out. We all grabbed our cameras and a “safety partner” and headed out to the middle of the action. After realizing we should find a safer spot to watch the event, we decided to find a roof of a nearby store. We soon had the best view in the house, where we watched the cross burn and people carry away the hot embers.
I also met an awesome girl. You can see a photo of her at the bottom, where I taught her the ever-so awesome “fist pump.” She followed me around all day, so sweet. And when she grows up, she wants to be a dancer, how fun is that?!
